Among age-eligible rotavirus AGE cases, 64 (80%) inpatients and 278484%) outpatients were enrolled.
In a separate study of 4 hospitals in Taiwan, Chen et al found that 43% of AGE cases in <5 years old children hospitalized were attributable to rotavirus [ 9].
If we assess the severity of AGE using only the hospitalization rate among the children, NoV AGE cases seem almost as severe as RV cases: of the NoV AGE cases, 47% were hospitalized and 47% were treated as outpatients; of the RV AGE cases, 54% were hospitalized and 42% were treated as outpatients.

As expected and despite their younger age, cases had a larger BMI and higher levels of glucose and lipids, with lower HDL-cholesterol levels, and a larger proportion of them were smokers or diabetic.
