The phrase "affects the immigrants" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used when discussing the impact of a situation, policy, or event on immigrant populations.
Example: "The new policy significantly affects the immigrants living in our community, altering their access to essential services."
Alternatives: "impacts the immigrants" or "influences the immigrants".
Segregation of workers across sectors and regions affects the immigrant and female wage penalties only marginally (column 3).
These are variables we also assume to affect the immigrants' decision to move.
