In November 2006, Google opened offices on Carnegie Mellon's campus in Pittsburgh, focusing on shopping-related advertisement coding and smartphone applications and programs.
The advertisement coding framework was developed based on the PRIME theory tenets outlined above, and was refined by a group of five researchers, who coded 12 advertisements independently to establish whether the framework was clear, included all the key elements of the advertisements, and whether or not there was broad concordance in coding.
