The phrase "advanced gently" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used to describe a process or action that is being carried out in a careful or gradual manner.
Example: "The team advanced gently through the dense forest, ensuring they did not disturb the wildlife."
Alternatives: "progressed slowly" or "moved cautiously."
