The phrase "adopt the shape of" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used when describing how something takes on a particular form or appearance, often in a metaphorical or literal sense.
Example: "The clouds began to adopt the shape of various animals as the sun set."
Alternatives: "take on the form of" or "assume the shape of".
The cavity can also adopt the shape of the eutomer.
