In order to understand this effect it is important to remember that the manipulation of sentence correctness (correct syntactic relationship between noun and adjective within the sentence) causes converse relationships between the within-sentence noun and the extraneous adjective.
These are supplemented with two or three sentences to describe the interpretation of the adjective within the context of the animal's behaviour (see Weiss, King, & Perkins, 2006).
In the semantic condition, semantic violations of the adjectives within the sentence were preceded by spoken adjectives that syntactically matched (velados[masc.] = fogged[masc.]) or mismatched (veladas[fem.] = fogged[fem.]) the written adjective.

That is, semantic within-sentence violations, which appeared between the visual adjective and the preceding noun, were combined with syntactic (across-stream) non-matches between the visual and the acoustic adjectives.
For both unbounded and bounded adjectives, the interpretations of the approximating degree modifiers and the adjectives were not significantly different from the negated adjectives.
For each adjective, participants rate the extent to which the adjective describes them.
