Genes retained as pairs following this tetraploidy, called homeologs (or homoeologs, Ohnologs, syntenic paralogs), have diverged a modal 0.76 in synonymous base substitution rate (Ks), and this was shown to be an adequate evolutionary divergence proxy to ensure that associated CNSs avoided purifying selection because CNSs on average, functioned.
