The phrase "additional metadata are" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used when referring to multiple pieces of metadata in a technical or academic context.
Example: "In our analysis, we found that additional metadata are essential for improving the accuracy of our results."
Alternatives: "extra metadata is" or "supplementary metadata are".
