Changes in sensitivity, such as those that occur during light or dark adaptation (see below: "The broader significance of the distinction between sensitivity and gain"), reflect displacement of a psychophysical function along the axis representing stimulus strength.
However, a defective growth invites further characterization since not only intracellular killing is necessary for efficient feeding of Dictyostelium on bacteria, but also phagocytosis, motility, and probably bacterial sensing and metabolic adaptation (see below).
Sixty-four right-handed undergraduate women (mean age=19.8 years, SEM=0.32; mean handedness=-0.83, SEM=0.026 where a score of -1 denotes complete right-handedness; ) completed a composite face task before and after a brief (five-minute) session of prism adaptation (see below for a full description of the task).

We used an established protocol for in situ hybridization in 96-well plates (Tomancak et al., 2007) with minor adaptations (see below): we added an over-night wash step after hybridization, incubate the anti-DIG antibody over night and used fluorescent tyramides for probe detection.
