For general task duration distributions, we adapt sample average approximation (SAA) method to probability objective function.
Baseline data on demographics, depression severity, rumination and time between assessments of the participants who remained in the study are presented in table 1. Depression severity was higher than that of the whole ADAPT sample [ADAPT mean (sd) MFQ, 37.9 (11.9); t(df22) = 2.91, p = 0.01].
The rapid assessment provided critical information about how to adapt sampling strategies and questionnaire items to each local situation.
These new series definitions were used to rerun regressions on the original sample, as well as on an adapted sample.
Further studies, with adapted sample size, are needed to determine the adverse effects of such treatment.
The adapted sample size analysis showed that a power of 79% was achieved for the parameter blood pressure and a significance level of 0.05 was achieved for the parameters HbA1c and total cholesterol.

For cluster randomised trials we computed the design effect from data presented in the study reports (intra-class correlation coefficients, cluster adjusted estimates and confidence intervals) using STATA 9.2 and adapted sample sizes and numbers of events to make appropriate allowance for clustering [ 13].
We are also adapting sample preparation techniques to enable correlated 3D imaging with CRM and SIMS in order to explore the complex native 3D biofilm structure, as well as transitioning from bacterial monoculture to plant-microbe cocultures in order to study metabolic exchange at the biological interface.
