At the 6-month time point, more of the percentage encirclement observed around the PVs in the acute scans persisted through to the follow-up scans in the overall arrhythmia-free patient group (robotic vs. standard: acute scans −75 ± 8% vs. 70±9%9%, P = 0.14 and follow-up scans 64±8%8% vs. 60±8%8%, P = 0.45).
In the robotic group, mean LGE percentage encirclements observed between no recurrences and recurrences were, 75±8%8% vs. 66 ± 7% (P = 0.01) on the acute scans and 64±8%8% vs. 43 ± 5%, (P < 0.0001) on the follow-up scans.
In addition, f P changed in the acute scan from both paradigms.
Conclusions: The presence of either a midline shift greater than 5mm or a subcortical contusion on acute CT scans is associated with a greater need of assistance with ambulation, ADLs, and global supervision at rehabilitation discharge.
At 1 year, 57% of patients with a midline shift greater than 5mm on acute CT scans were being supervised in the home versus 30% to 39% of those with a shift of lesser degree (P=.003); there were no significant differences in the percentages of those needing assistance for ambulation or ADLs.
Acute CT scans were performed using 64-section MDCT Philipss Brilliance 64 TM Philips Medical Systemss, Best, the Netherlands) with non-contrast CT cerebrum (120 kVp, 500 mAs; 5 mm slice thickness reconstruction).
Acute stroke scanning departments, casualty departments and stroke assessment wards could usefully display the scales as an aide memoir for when scans are being interpreted.
7 8 One clinical study which concluded that prompt treatment does not reduce renal scarring was restricted to a highly selected subgroup of children who had pyelonephritis and an abnormal acute DMSA scan, and may therefore not be applicable to unselected children with a UTI.
Dived rats had a different time-curve for the dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI signal than controls with higher relative signal intensity, a tendency towards longer time to peak and a larger area under the curve for the whole brain on the acute MRI scan.
Therefore doctors reading acute stroke CT scans should slow down, practice scan reading, look for three cardinal signs (hypoattenuation, swelling and hyperattenuated artery), be encouraged to use a scale, be aware that leukoaraiosis reduces detection of acute signs (but not old stroke lesions) and that scan quality per se does not overly reduce ischemic lesion detection.
There were no significant differences in the prevalence of other abnormalities visible on acute CT brain scans following blast exposure or study structural MR scans, including presence of extracerebral, subarachnoid, or intraventricular hemorrhage, microbleeds, superficial siderosis, or gliosis, between those soldiers with versus without pituitary dysfunction (Supplementary Table S4).
