Dopamine neurons were identified by electrophysiological characteristics measured in cell-attached mode (spontaneous pacemaker action potential firing 1 5 Hz, wide action potential width ~ 2 ms)55, characteristic cell properties such as capacitance and resting membrane resistance56, and by the presence of a slow Ih current induced by hyperpolarization.
