The phrase "act powerfully" is correct and usable in written English.
You can use it to describe someone taking decisive or impactful action in a situation.
Example: "In times of crisis, leaders must act powerfully to inspire confidence and motivate their teams."
Alternatives: "take strong action" or "perform with impact".
As a medicated atmosphere, or as wine during animated conversation; they act powerfully, though themselves unnoticed.
Or, as columnist David Brooks neatly put it: "If you act powerfully, you will begin to think powerfully".
Yet the exaggeration serves to remind us that "The Public Square" (and poems like it) may still act powerfully on a reader's perceptions.
