There is a prevailing conventional wisdom that a mixture of positively and negatively worded items can counteract acquiescence response bias in surveys (Schriesheim & Hill, 1981).
However, empirical evidence shows that negatively worded items may not be an appropriate control for acquiescence response bias (Schriesheim & Hill, 1981).
In particular, many common social media measures are prone to acquiescence response bias, an error that occurs due to individuals' tendency to agree with agree disagree questions.
