A schematic of the experimental setup is shown in Fig. 2. A phantom Lucite box (with blackened 18-cm walls) was filled with Intralipid-1% solution and accommodated a fiber with a 800-μm spherical diffuser (connected to a white light source) and a 600-μm side firing fiber (the radiance detector).
