Cerium, which is the most abundant, ranks 28th, and thulium, the least abundant, ranks 63rd.
To exclude the possibility that our affinity purification protocol unspecifically enriched highly expressed mRNAs, we averaged the data from the three competively hybridized samples of total S. pombe cDNA to determine the relative expression rank of each mRNA (rank 1 = most abundant mRNA, rank 5407 = least abundant mRNA; see legend to Fig. 4C for detail).
The ordinate represents the cumulative percentage of individuals, and the abscissa represents the abundance rank of species, from most abundant (left) to rarest (right).
Of these, SRSF1 was ranked most highly by MS (9th of 41 proteins), whereas the next most abundant, SRSF2, ranked only 25th.

Based on association with GO functions, we found that, of the top 30 most abundant ESTs ranked by level, 21 were associated with photosynthesis function (or light harvesting, GO 0009765) that was greatly enriched (i.e., 239-fold increase, p value <1E−26).
