The phrase "above cross section" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used in contexts related to diagrams, engineering, or scientific discussions where a reference is made to a cross section that is located above another section or illustration.
Example: "As shown in the above cross section, the structural integrity of the beam is compromised."
Alternatives: "previous cross section" or "upper cross section".
A similar ambiguity operates in the layered patterns and colors of "Difficulty Breathing," which show a pond and some water plants from above and in cross section.
