Speaking of incremental fixes, how about Vista?
(It was technically superseded by Windows Vista in 2007, but we don't talk about Vista anymore).
XP users have heard too many chilling stories from relatives and friends about Vista upgrades that have gone badly.
One way to start preparing for any eventual Vista upgrades is to make a list of all the hardware and software you use with your current Windows system and then check each manufacturer's Web site for information about Vista compatibility.
Enough that everyone will forget about Vista.

If you don't have anything nice to say about Windows Vista then don't bother writing about it.
Joe Wilcox has an article over on Microsoft Watch called "10 Things I Warned Microsoft About Windows Vista" wherein he details some of the advice he gave to Microsoft executives back when Vista was in development.
Worse still were tales of woe about getting Vista to work with printers and other peripherals.
