Let's talk about iLife '08.
When we heard about iLife '09 last month, Apple touted the Faces and Places features of the iPhone and image stabilization and precise editing in iMovie.
You should be able to know the difference between OS X 10.4.x and OS X 10.5.x, know about iLife and iWork, and be able to tell the difference between a MacBook and a MacBook Pro.

Its iLife concept is coming alive, but that merely keeps the company on the leading edge of an unpredictable wave that will sink any player that makes the tiniest mistake.

In short, iLife 09 is a semi-solid upgrade but probably not worth $79 if you're not overly excited about Faces or Lessons.
In the personal computer market, Apple wins both ways: its ASPs are much higher than those of rival computer manufacturers, and it used to be able to sell OS upgrades, as well as upgrades to its iLife media and iWork office suites, providing a small but reliable income.
But it also lays on free stuff; the iLife suite has come with Macs for years, and there still isn't a comparable suite on Windows.
Apple announced updates to its iLife suite of apps at today's event in San Francisco, but perhaps more interesting than any specific feature is the pricing – the company said iLife will be free with purchase of any new Mac or iOS device.
