Remarkably, the dense nuclear cataract was fully suppressed in compound mutant lenses while the very mild cortical opacity including an abnormal ring-like defect was remained (Figure 1A).
We first analyzed the impact of mHtt on mitochondrial morphology, and surprisingly, we revealed the formation of abnormal ring-shaped mitochondria in photoreceptor neurons.
It is characterized by an abnormal ridge or ring of tissue in the left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) that resists ventricular ejection, generates pressure overload, and increases velocity of blood flow into the aorta (Pyle and Patterson 1976; Jones et al. 1982).
Subdividing the karyotypes showed that most of the abnormal karyotypes had ring and/or giant chromosomes; 15 ALT/WDLs had one or more rings and/or giant chromosomes (42%), 5 had a 12q13-15 rearrangement (14%), 5 had a 13q rearrangement or loss of chromosome 13 (14%), 3 had a 6p21-23 rearrangement (8%), and 10 had other rearrangements (28%).
Children with Asperger's also had abnormal index-to-ring finger ratios, though less so than full-blown autistics.
The remaining three tumour cells (SJG13, SJG15 and SJG25) exhibited abnormal architecture on rings with a 40 μm non-adhesive centre (Fig. 4b, d).
All patients were selected according to fundus autofluorescence that was characterised by an abnormal high density parafoveal ring (Figs. 1, 2, 4– 8).
In the present study, 36 out of the 38 (95%) ALT/WDL cases had an abnormal karyotype, whereby the ring and/or giant marker chromosome was identified in 15 of them (42 %).
The colocalization of Bud3p with the septins in abnormal septin spirals and rings raises the possibility that Bud3p may interact with one or more septins in vivo.
As the cell cycle proceeds, slight localization and shape defects would be rapidly emphasized by active cell wall synthesis, eventually leading to abnormal structure of the division ring and severe morphological defects.
