Penetrance of aberrant chromosomal areas across the genome was demonstrated using Aberration Detection Method 2 (Agilent Genomic Workbench Lite Edition 6.5.0.18, Agilent Technologies), a quality-weighted interval score algorithm that identifies aberrant intervals in samples that have consistent gain or loss log ratios based on their statistical score.

It is important to note that the low level of methylation in normal appearing colorectal mucosa observed in our study, in a similar manner as in others [13], [31], may be due to the circumscription of this phenomenon to limited areas (aberrant crypt foci, for instance) rather than a spread, diffuse alteration throughout the colon [39].

The two indices were associated (χ df (20) = 58.72, p < 0.001), but a high-dependence risk-factor score provided a poor indication of high aberrant behaviour risk; the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.58 (95%% CI 0.41, 0.74).
These fish often displayed scattered, distinct areas of aberrant tissue growth along the fin (Fig. 2A, green arrows mark areas of comparatively reduced growth), which can occur normally, at a rate significantly higher (56%) than in WT+MTZ (13.4%) or NTR−MTZ (7.8%) (Fig. 2D).
