The phrase "a water divide" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used to refer to a geographical feature that separates different watersheds or drainage basins.
Example: "The Appalachian Mountains serve as a significant water divide, directing rainfall into the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other."
Alternatives: "a watershed boundary" or "a drainage divide".
