The phrase "a transition position" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used to describe a role or state that serves as a bridge between two different situations, stages, or roles.
Example: "After graduating, I took a transition position to gain experience before pursuing a full-time job in my field."
Alternatives: "a bridging role" or "an interim position".
