The Hyde Park area of Leeds is one of the most diverse in the city, with a substantial transient student population, a large and growing Asian population all mixed in with the more long standing community members.
In the mixed constituency of Glasgow Kelvin, which has a large and transient student population and where leafy mansions sit alongside working class areas like Partick, voters said that enthusiasm for the election was markedly lower than during the previous general election and independence referendum.
A tour of the city indicated that small-time landlordism and the transient student population it encourages have turned some areas into "tips" - overflowing wheelie bins and rubbish-strewn front gardens.
These poorer schools, the report said, have more transient student bodies, fewer teachers qualified in their subject areas, parents lacking political power, more frequent health problems among students and lower test scores.
The only evidence we could see of this was fancy new accommodation for the city's transient student population.

State education officials hope the new tracking method will encourage school districts across the state to pay more attention to their transient students, said Alan Ray, a spokesman for the State Education Department.
This method omits from a school's results the scores of transient students who may have received most of their high school education in other schools, or even other countries.
The federal Higher Education Amendments of 1998 require colleges to make a "good faith effort" to distribute registration materials to transient students, who have the option to establish residency in their home community or where they go to school.
In 2007, the number of transient students was cut in half, to roughly 5,000 students.
