The phrase "a thing possessed" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used to refer to an object or concept that is owned or held by someone.
Example: "In the story, the protagonist struggles with a thing possessed that brings both power and burden."
Alternatives: "an owned item" or "a possessed object".
