The phrase "a sustained mode" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used to describe a continuous or prolonged state or manner of operation, often in contexts related to performance, behavior, or processes.
Example: "The system operates in a sustained mode to ensure optimal performance during peak hours."
Alternatives: "an ongoing state" or "a continuous mode".
However, their mRNA levels returned to baseline earlier in cells treated in a transient versus a sustained mode.
