If replicated, these data encourage the clinical use of fMRI for individual risk prediction of a suboptimal illness course, which is urgently needed given the present insufficient sequential treatment algorithms.
Stillbirths and deaths before 28 days were excluded as evidence of a suboptimal intrauterine course, which may be associated with abnormal growth, and, for stillbirths, because duration of intrauterine growth, as opposed to gestational duration to delivery, is not recorded.
This uninformed course risks producing a suboptimal level of health gain and/or wasting highly needed financial resources.

Of course this is not always easy or convenient, but the goal here is to lower the risk of a suboptimal outcome that must later be corrected.
