The phrase "a striking alteration" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used to describe a noticeable or significant change in something, often in a context where the change is unexpected or remarkable.
Example: "The artist's latest work features a striking alteration in style that has captivated audiences."
Alternatives: "a remarkable change" or "a notable modification".
