The phrase "a stretches" is not correct in English.
It seems to be a grammatical error, as "stretches" is a plural noun and should not be preceded by "a."
Example: "He does a few stretches every morning to stay flexible."
Alternatives: "a stretch" or "some stretches."
Figure 6a shows an enlarged map along Line A. The western part of Line A stretches into the Niigata plain.
The A stretches beside the C insertion varied from 11 to 19 repeats in total, while O. meridionalis showed only three types of A stretches, referred to as 11A, 14A, and 15A (Table 3).
The scaling and translation are performed by two parameters: the scale parameter a stretches (or compresses) the mother wavelet to the required resolution, while the translation parameter b shifts the basis function to the desired location.
If the lower and upper bounds of the actual distribution are [a, b], respectively, rather than the [0,1] values of the standard distribution, the scale value (b − a) stretches (or contracts) the distribution and the location value (a) shifts the starting point of the distribution.
In order to test this conjecture, I extended the definition of GA-sequences to include more cases with poly(A) stretches.
For the cloning of 3' ends of F element transcripts lacking suffix and poly(A) sequences, the addition of poly(A) stretches was performed with the aid of yeast poly(A) polymerase (see the scheme in Figure 7).
The ubiquitous poly-A stretches are hypothesized to form hydrophobic crystalline domains that are responsible for the high tensile strength of the fiber [20] [24].
To identify them, we conducted EMSA experiments with linker scanning mutant probes, in which GC-rich regions, known to be preferentially bound by E2F factors, were individually altered to poly-A stretches (Fig. 4B).
An endosymbiont Blochmannia pennsylvanicus contains a very large number of long poly-A stretches in its genome, resulting in non-templated insertions and deletions of As in the corresponding RNA transcripts that break (or restore) the translational phase of numerous coding regions [58].
In contrast, competition with unlabelled oligonucleotides in which the DHFR or N-myc E2F sites had been mutated to poly-A stretches had no effect on GST-E2F1 binding to the EBP1 probes (Fig. 5A and data not shown), further confirming the specificity of the interactions between GST-E2F1 and the EBP1 sites.
Sixteen nucleotide substitutions, eight indels and two poly-A stretches were detected.
