The phrase "a small sedation" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used in medical contexts to refer to a mild or light sedative effect or dosage.

Alternatives: "a mild sedation" or "a light sedation".
The most common reaction is sedation, but a small proportion become manic and in the case of larger pets can be a danger to humans.
