Origin and quality played a key role in consumer preferences for organic and locally obtained foods: 58percentt of shoppers indicated that locally sourced meat, produce and dairy products were important, and 49percentt said they preferred organic options when available.

These businesses are able to take what they've learned from being pure-play online and transfer it to their physical locations, giving customers the human contact they often still want as many as 70% of shoppers indicate that they're looking for interaction in physical retail.
Food companies have already seen higher sales from supermarket shoppers, indicating that more meals are being prepared at home.

Hoping to improve razor-thin profit margins, they are creating specific offers and prices, based on shoppers' behaviors, that could encourage them to spend more: a bigger box of Tide and bologna if the retailer's data suggests a shopper has a large family, for example (and expensive bologna if the data indicates the shopper is not greatly price-conscious).
