The Village Voice article, first posted on The Voice's Web site, reported that Mr. Thompson did not have a securities license for the first three years he worked for an investment firm, George K. Baum & Company, in the early 1990's.
"That is not entirely unjustified," he added, "since they have to consider whether they might be violating laws of the country the person resides in, where they are unlikely to hold a securities license".
