After end-inspiratory clamping, an analysis of the pressure signal reveals a decline in the airway pressure that occurs in two steps: a rapid initial decline that corresponds to the resistive forces of the airways and the endotracheal tube, and a progressive secondary decline that represents the resistive forces of the lung tissue, which depend on its viscoelastic properties.
As we expect that a low-intensity training may slow-down the secondary decline of muscle endurance and functional abilities (figure 1), we developed the No Use is Disuse (NUD) study protocol to answer the clinically relevant questions whether low-intensity physical training in boys with DMD is beneficial and does not cause further harm.
