"If anyone is going to venture out of a river or stream then they should have to have a safe-boating certificate," said Vincent Cashin, president of the Connecticut State Marine Pilots Association.
The Cross County chapter of the United States Power Squadron, an organization of boat owners that promotes safe boating, will offer a free eight-week course on water safety and basic sailing skills beginning on Oct. 4 at 7 30 p.m. at Mamaroneck High School.
The majority of boaters displayed a moderate level of safe boating behaviour based on BSS scores.
With 76 acres of lawns, beaches, coves, court and field sports areas, floating pathways, fishing piers, cafes, restored wetlands, picnic areas, biking paths, performance spaces, safe boating areas and more, Brooklyn Bridge Park will be a democratic and dynamic public space on the Brooklyn waterfront, enjoyed by thousands of New Yorkers and the world's citizens.
The youngsters learn what they need to know in the field, like how to identify local species, safe boating, conservation principles and of course, gun handling.
"I'm disappointed, personally," said the official, Mark V. Rosenker, the acting chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board, who added that personal flotation devices, or P.F.D.'s, were essential to safe boating.
Members are required to take the eight-hour safe boating course given by the Coast Guard Auxiliary, but for those who haven't already completed the course, the club provides the instructor.
