Prompted by an investigation by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) which found hundreds of allegations that children have been abused, and some even died as a result of misuses of restrain and seclusion, Rep. George Miller (D-CA), Chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee is championing two bills through Congress.
Often, these problems are a result of laser misuse, or treating unsuitable candidates, such as people with dark or tanned skin, or with light hair.
In January 2003, five people died in fires in New York City as a result of the misuse of space heaters, according to the Fire Department.
In the five-year period examined by the report, another 58 women died as a result of substance misuse and two from other mental-health related issues, taking the total number of mental health-related deaths to 161, equivalent to 17% of the total number of maternal deaths.
"Trust in the internet is declining as a result of data misuse, hacking and privacy intrusion", said Axel Lehmann, chief risk officer at Zurich Financial Group and who also worked on the report.
Twitter says it's already identified "a large number" of suspected spam accounts as a result of investigating misuse of an old part of its signup flow — saying these are "primarily follow spammers", i.e. spambots who automatically or bulk followed verified or other high-profile accounts at the point of sign up.
Puzzlingly, it appears that fewer are using, yet more are dying as a result of substance misuse.
"The case arose from a routine brand defense procedure that was activated as a result of some misuse of the Nutella brand on the fan page," Ferrero said in a statement.
