The phrase "a reason for assuming" is correct and usable in written English.
You can use it when discussing the justification or rationale behind a particular assumption or belief.
Example: "There is a reason for assuming that the project will be completed on time, given the team's track record of meeting deadlines."
Alternatives: "a basis for believing" or "a justification for presuming".
