We need a fruitful, progressive conversation that abandons a focus on the status quo and reform efforts that toy around existing edges -- instead choosing a new vision for the future that endeavors to do the hard work of changing the culture and functioning of a system that means so much to so many.
The idea was that "once the country stopped unloading on freeloaders, once you got rid of that ugliness and anger from politics, and stopped yelling at people to get off welfare, you could start a much more positive, healthy, progressive conversation about how to help low-income workers," DeParle explained.
