The phrase "a preparation from" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used in contexts where you are describing a substance or product that is derived from another source, often in scientific or culinary discussions.
Example: "This ointment is a preparation from natural herbs designed to soothe skin irritations."
Alternatives: "a formulation derived from" or "a product made from".
