What is a parallel projection?
Since the rays of a parallel projection correspond to a single line instanced multiple times across the viewing plane the approach lends itself well to implementation on massively parallel computers.
We use a parallel projection model which supports both zooming and panning of the imaging devices.
The study of the robustness of Mann's algorithm is initiated by Combettes [22] where he considered a parallel projection method algorithm in signal synthesis (design and recovery) problems in a real Hilbert space as follows: (1.2).
Assuming a parallel projection regime, each row of pixels in an acquired image can be considered a 1-D projection, i.e. a sum along the direction of the optical axis, of a 2-D slice through the sample.

This paper presents a direct method to recover the geometry of the 3D polyhedron depicted in a single parallel projection.
The main result allows us to construct usable families of transformations; it is a decomposition theorem which states that under some assumptions, any perceptually acceptable picture-independent viewing transformation can be decomposed into a perspective or parallel projection and a two-dimensional transformation.
For carpenters, the 2D representation is given by orthographic projections, which are a kind of parallel projection where all projection lines are orthogonal to the projection plane.
