The phrase "a note of spite" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used to describe a subtle or slight expression of malice or resentment in someone's words or actions.
Example: "Her comment about my project had a note of spite that I couldn't ignore."
Alternatives: "a hint of malice" or "a touch of resentment."
