The phrase "a more general example" is correct and usable in written English.
You can use it when you want to provide an illustration that is broader or less specific than a previous example.
Example: "To clarify my point, let me give you a more general example that applies to a wider audience."
Alternatives: "a broader example" or "a more inclusive example".
A more general example is the space of functions on an algebraic loop.
