The phrase "a model of knowing" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used to describe a framework or example that illustrates a particular way of understanding or acquiring knowledge.
Example: "In her lecture, she presented a model of knowing that emphasized experiential learning as a key component of education."
Alternatives: "a framework for understanding" or "an example of knowledge acquisition."
Analytic philosophy is, largely, the inheritor of this disembodied model of knowing and many evolutionary theorists, probably unwittingly, inherit it too.
