Gene clusters were selected with either a minimal membership of 10 genes and a minimal correlation threshold of 0.7, or a minimum of 25 genes and a correlation of 0.6, respectively (for details see Additional file 4, Supplementary Methods Section 2).
The number of initial clusters chosen was 30 as this was the lowest number of clusters to allow a minimal correlation coefficient of R = 0.7 for any feature profile in its respective cluster.
