These researchers observed a narrow CO band (middle component) in mixtures dominated by nonpolar molecules and a broader reddish one in mixtures dominated by polar ices (essentially H2O).
The middle component renders a slide show.
Based on stochastic optimization strategy, a formulation methodology is proposed for synthesizing distillation column sequences, allowing more than one middle component as the distributing components between a pair of key components in the non-sharp split.
Historically, observations of the stretching mode of CO ice along many lines of sight have revealed decomposition into a broader red-shifted component situated somewhere in the region 2130 2138 cm-1 (red component) and a narrow component centred on 2140 cm-1 (middle component) (Lacy et al., 1884; Whittet et al., 1985; Geballe, 1986).
Laboratory measurements on CO mixtures with other gases deposited on a flat substrate at low temperature have shown that the middle component occurs in mixtures dominated by non-polar molecules (CO2, O2, N2) and that a broader reddish component appears in mixtures dominated by polar molecules, such as H2O, NH3 and CH3OH (Tielens et al., 1991; Palumbo et al., 1995; Ehrenfreund et al., 1996, 1997).
The differences of the activation energy also indicate the energy differences of the lower two states, and the obtained value is 55 meV between the slowest component (τ1) and the middle component (τ2), which agrees with the results obtained from the global fitting method.
Then, according to the literature [23], the middle component is associated with O2− ions in the O deficient regions within the ZnO lattice, and the intensity of this component may be partially connected with the concentration of VO, which has the lowest formation energy among the donor-like defects [24].
It has been proposed that the amplitude of the middle component N200 reflects biased selective attention to task-relevant stimulus properties (e.g., color, shape, etc).
A limited number of studies also used electrophysiological measurements in the subacute or chronic phase with the aim of providing a more accurate prognosis, assessing electroencephalographic reactivity [ 8], the presence of N400 evoked potentials to speech [ 9] or the absence of the middle component of auditory evoked potentials [ 10].
Other fibre degeneration studies in monkeys adopted this nomenclature (Vogt 1909; Ranson 1939; Nauta and Mehler 1966), changing also the names of the components of the ansa lenticularis of von Monakow (Von Monakow 1895; Nauta and Mehler 1966) to take into account their different projections, such as the STh for the middle component.
This has been subdivided into a highly-repetitive component of about 5% of the genome, composed of elements in 10,000 or more copies; and a middle-repetitive component accounting for 27% of the genome [ 80].
