The phrase "a mediocre selection" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used to describe a choice or variety of items that is average or not particularly impressive.
Example: "The restaurant offered a mediocre selection of desserts, leaving much to be desired."
Alternatives: "an average selection" or "a lackluster selection".
