The phrase "a markedly higher proportion" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used when comparing quantities or percentages to indicate a significant difference in proportions between two or more groups.
Example: "In the recent survey, a markedly higher proportion of participants reported feeling satisfied with their jobs compared to last year."
Alternatives: "a significantly greater share" or "a notably larger percentage".
