Our data indicate that neurons growing on top of DS astrocytes exhibit abnormal changes in spine morphology and density, and a marked reduction in synaptic density.
Compared to MCHWT mice, MCHAtax mice were characterized by a significant drop in MCH mRNAs (−70%), a partial loss of MCH-immunoreactive neurons (−30%) and a marked reduction in brain density of MCH-immunoreactive fibers.
