For a given local connectivity, W (j, k), we postulate the existence of an eigenvector v λ that is well localized around some position, j0, defined as its center.
These artificial data were then spatially smoothed with a 3.5 mm kernel Gaussian filter to approximate the point-spread function (Engel et al., 1997), and correlations were computed between all 36 bins to generate a new local connectivity model.
A major finding of this study is the identification of two network architectures, with either a gradient of local connectivity or a gradient of long-distance connection length, that give rise to activity patterns with localized timescales.

We therefore investigated whether our observation of unidirectional connections may in some cases reflect a misalignment of local connectivity patterns for pathways that are actually bidirectional in an area-to-area sense.
A high threshold results in networks with fewer connections than a lower threshold and results in network values that indicate a decrease in local connectivity and global integration.
ROIs 2, 4, 7 and 8 had a particularly high local connectivity while 3, 6 and 10 had much less local connectivity (see Supporting file S2).
