Five QTLs for mesocotyl length were identified by the slant-board test using an F2 population derived from a cross between a low-vigor japonica cultivar and a high-vigor indica cultivar (Redoña and Mackill [1996]).
Leaf removal in the fruiting zone, both manual and mechanical, is a common practice in high vigor, vertically trained vine canopies [1,2] and it could be applied from flowering to full veraison, thus improving fruit composition and reducing herbaceous wine character [3].
The break identified can be largely thought of as a turning point in Spanish economic policy relative to Franco's dictatorial regime, leading to a period of a high reformist vigor brought about by the new democratic period that encompassed almost every economic area, both within the country itself and further afield, spurred by the firm intention of Spain to access to the European core.
These results suggest that visual cues, though sufficient to trigger courtship, are inefficient in maintaining a high courtship vigor without the support of gustatory or olfactory cues.
By contrast, the impairment of the male's olfaction by the Or83b2 mutation did not affect his courtship performance in the dark, as compared to Ore-R males (Figure 3), which suggests that the gustatory sense is sufficient to trigger courtship (M7) and elicit a high courtship vigor (M4).
At baseline subjects showed a high positive vigor score coupled with low ratings on negative scales, indicating that participants were generally in positive moods.
Trees with high vigor index values have high growth rates and are assumed to have high carbohydrate reserves.
Shoot dry weights under low P were plotted against those under sufficient P to identify lines with high vigor under both P treatments (Fig. 3).
This is obvious because seedlings can be scored with low SES only if they have attained higher shoot length and high vigor, which means long root length, although higher SES scores could be given to plants with poor vigor and growth.
However, our transplanted plugs showed high growth rates in the absence of competition and their mortality rates were low, indicating high vigor.
In the first adjusted model, findings for high vigor and high dedication remained significant.
