The precursory deformation associated with each of the sub-Plinian eruptions documented in this study can be interpreted as follows: a gradual E1 component contraction corresponds to the accumulation of volcanic gases at depth, and a rapid extension of the E1 component corresponds to decreasing pressure during the release of volcanic gases within the crater.
Likewise, the additive genetic component and maternal component showed a gradual rise across months (Fig. 6a, brown and pink lines, respectively).
Equation (7) fits the principal component of mode 1 very well and there is no sign of a gradual increase in the principal component just before the mainshock.
Upon addition of SDS at increasing concentrations, a gradual decrease in the immobile component was seen, which is indicative of a direct relationship between higher residue mobility and an increasing level of denaturation.
